Buffalo, NY – Mike Janis and his team will be the first to tell you “dreams really do come true.” Mike Janis Racing (MJR) rolled into the most historic event in the NHRA sport of drag racing, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana Labor Day weekend. MJR had one mindset going into this race, “just win.”

“In drag racing, Indy is like the Super Bowl to football,” said Mike Janis Jr., GM/Crew Chief at MJR. “We have been working extremely hard as a team over the last two months prepping the car for the U.S. Nationals. We know we have been working with an awesome combination with our Mike Janis Superchargers/Jan-Cen Racing Engines Camaro. Race Car Specialties of Warren, Michigan built us this hot rod, and it seems we have been able to find out what she wants with each run we continue to make down the track. We ended up in the number two qualifying spot with a stellar 5.98 e.t. @ over 242 mph. The conditions were very tricky all weekend with temperatures soaring in the upper 90 degree range and track conditions which seen the track temperature hit 130 degrees. As a tuner, conditions like these can make your head spin, but myself and Co-Crew Chief Kevin Peters were able to make the necessary changes ahead of time and managed to stay ahead of the curve all weekend. I could not be more proud of our team,” said an elated Janis Jr.

Mike Janis worked his way through eliminations posting a 5.97 e.t. 1st round, 5.97 e.t. 2nd round, 5.99 e.t. 3rd round, and a 5.95 e.t.@ 242 mph to take out the NHRA Pro Mod Championship points leader Rickie Smith. No matter the tricky weather conditions, Mike Janis and team stuck to their original plan, “just win.”

“To win the U.S. Nationals is just incredible,” said Mike Janis, Owner/Driver at MJR. “I have been involved in drag racing since I was about eight years old and it is the dream of every racer out there to win Indy. I can’t thank my crew enough for putting together a flawless performance. I also want to thank each and every single one of our partners involved with us at MJR. Without them none of this would even be possible and I really mean that. We continue to work with our partners day in and day out to help them generate as much ROI and measurable sales as possible. I feel very blessed to have all the support we receive from everyone. I was just a young boy being raised by mom and dad growing up on 2nd Avenue in Lancaster, NY with six brothers and one sister realizing that if you follow your dreams, they can and will come true someday. Do not ever let anyone tell you your not good enough to do something or you don’t belong. Follow that dream until you make it a reality, and when you finally get there I will guarantee you it will take quite some time to actually sink in. It still hasn’t sunk in yet for myself and I am not really sure when it will. INDY, WOW, that is all I can say,” said Janis.
